Description: One chapter (chapter 3) discusses the value of visual representations in design field other than instructional design. The other (chapter 17) is about the pervasiveness of design drawing in instructional design. Both appeared in Botturi, L. & Stubbs, S.T. (2008). The handbook of visual languages for instructional design: theory and practice. Hershey, PA: IGI Global. Both were adapted from sections of my dissertation.

My Roles/Contributions: Andy Gibbons is listed as second author on both because he was my dissertation chair, giving valuable feedback and direction (which inspired me to rewrite this section several times!). His contribution was invaluable, but the writing is entirely my own.

Writing: The original was in academic style for a dissertation, so style did not need to be adapted. However, a different introduction connecting it to the Handbook, and those things that referenced other parts of my dissertation had to be altered to fit.

Note: I was also co-editor of the Handbook.
